Getty Villa, More to See...

Marble relief carving

A special exhibit on the lives of women and girls...

 And then, lions!

This is the Lion Attacking a Horse, which was restored in the Renaissance with quite a lot of liberal interpretation by the artist(s?) regarding the features of the horse's head and feet. The original lion survives, but is very worn - hard to see in this photo. The sheer size of this piece is very intimidating. Placing it up at eye level adds to the effect of the action and realism of the sculpture, I thought.

Now, a quick intermission for some fresh air...

Enough fresh air. Back to the exhibits!
